Lari pagi sambil dengerin jazz instrumental? Orang saya suka terus mau apa? I'm going to write this blog post like nobody will watch, so if you've read it this far, I recommend you to not waste your precious time reading my rubbish writing about me, meeting the love of my life. Let's call him mas Aga. Because it's what he's called. I first watched him on a night in Erasmus (November 2014) I finished my Dutch lesson. It was a Saturday night so I thought it wouldn't hurt to stay out longer and watch a mini concert. Turned out that my mind was blown away of the performance, loved it very much. But I didn't think that the pianist, mas Aga, was Indonesian, because somehow, his name made me thought he was Indian lol. I have a really bad ability to recognize and remember people's faces). Curtains call. Then about one year later, when I turned on my TV (just one of those VERY RARE days of me watching TV), I saw him again. Oh, he's Indonesian. I, because of those remembering people's faces issue that I have, recognize him from the unique (Indian-ish) name. And he played Suwe Ora Jamu so very very beautifully. If my mind was blown away when watching him the first time, this one was much more than that. I've always been a fan of Indonesian national and traditional songs (no lies!) and for years and years I only listen to those classic from Youtube. And now, someone this awesome chooses to play those my favorite songs. He just stole my heart. I start listening to his albums, lots. But since he was quiet in social media, I never paid attention on him nor what he does. Never went to watch him live either. And almost exactly one year later (funny how it frequents always in the end of the year with one year gap each), I went to JGTC. I stayed late to watch Barasuara perform. But since Barasuara's crowd is always packed, I hang around the stage since 2 hours before they played. What I read in the schedule was JGTC Young Stars (or something like that) tribute to Djanger Bali. At that time, I only knew that Djanger Bali was a legendary record in Indonesian jazz. But I never listened to the album specifically. So I, didn't pay attention on who performed on stage, tried to enjoy the music while checking my phone and all that stuffs. But the music got my attention easily. And when I tried to recognize each of the player, he was one of them. Djanger Bali record (yeah so I listened to the original record afterwards) was good already, but the arrangement of those people on stage that night was magical. I definitely am haunted by the music. I couldn't get it out of my mind for weeks after. And I bought more of mas Aga's CD. And Djanger Bali CD. And started listening to his music even more religiously. Once in a while, I mentioned him in Twitter or Instagram and I asked when he'll perform again. He said a certain date, it was last night. I went to watch him, of course. Just one of the best days in my life. One of the very best, even. Before he performed at 8 PM, I went to a listening session with a young, talented, and gorgeous Indonesian singer in a cafe. I offered a woman to share table with me so she could get a better spot to see the singer (because my table has the best spot!). And we chatted for a bit. It turned out that the woman and her husband owned an online music store I usually bought my CD's (including mas Aga's) from. What a crazy coincidence. Download Lagu DadaliShe asked if I'm going to stay until late. I said, 'Of course. I originally only want to see mas Aga'. She responded, 'My husband will meet him before he performed. Now he's still practicing at home as we're speaking' OMG. *cue the dramatic background music* She offered if I wanted to meet mas Aga.
